5 Steps To Organize Your Life & Accomplish Your Dreams…aka the 5x5.

So you have decided!  (Or maybe you are deciding if you want to decide).  That is amazing, and congratulations. Making the decision to choose your happiness is the greatest choice you can make for yourself and the ones you love.

The process you are about to read is what I found worked for me.  It is not set in stone and can be customized to the pieces of your life you desire to change.

For myself, I tried so many programs, plans, and strategies. Some worked,  some cluttered thing up, but I always left feeling like I wasn’t “moving fast enough”.  One day I asked my Spiritual Team…”What do I need to do? Please help me organize my life so I may be my best self.”  The process listed below is the answer I received.

I will walk through the overall concept, general guidelines, and explain the process I believe will help you live a healthy life while accomplishing your goals and dreams.  I will also write a blog for each of the five habit changes. Think of this as a guideline to my practice.

Overall Concept for this practice:

  • Discover an inner peace and self control allowing you to think clearly, make wise decisions, and be your best self.
  • By focusing and practicing on a primary goal it allows your mind to clear and creates a process for many other goals, habits, and dreams to be completed.

General Guidelines I set for myself:

  • Be gentle with yourself.
  • Massive change comes with small steps and micro habit changes each day
  • Give yourself time to change and grow.
  • Be Gentle with yourself.

Why list 'being gentle with yourself' twice you ask?

In the past, I would list all the things I wanted to change in my life, creating Short Term, Mid Term, Long Term Goals.  I would have a list two pages long or a drawing that encompassed all my dreams and goals. A beneficial exercise I recommend as brain dumps are so valuable. While studying habits and how they are truly changed, I realized my frustration came from overloading myself and feeling a ‘lack of’ for not completing every single item on my comprehensive list. It left me feeling discouraged, instead of encouraged. This is where I decided to focus on one habit at a time for an extended period of time.

This program is about forgiveness, self love, and compassion.  Be gentle with yourself…your dreams are already yours.

Take this one step at a time and give yourself time to accomplish them:

Five Habits in 5 Months… (Aka - The 5x5)

#1. Healthy Eating

#2. Exercise

#3. Budget

#4. Dreams & Goals

#5. Document, Record, Review

So there it is… I would almost dare to say it is simple with a touch of easy on the side.

But with so many simple and easy things, the complexity and the details are where we lose focus with our goals.  This is exactly why I created this program. I was tired of trying a million things to better myself while my wheels spun struggling to perfect or accomplish even one.

This program is for those looking to organize your Mind, Body, and Soul so they work together for you to accomplish your ‘Personal Treasure’  (Yes, the Alchemist by Paul Coello is a must read).

First Step...

So How Does It Work?

  1. Start with the first goal and know you have a one whole month to make a few small changes.  The first is healthy eating.

I chose healthy eating first because I realized when we feed and nourish our Body and Mind well, it enable us to think clearly, feel energized, and make us feel better all around. These two steps are vital to accomplishing, ‘well everything’.   Remember, a Whole Body is a Happy Body.

***Chronic Illness Experiencers*** This is vital for you!

I feel your pain…

I understand your fear…

I know you choose to thrive…

And thrive you can!  Let me be the ‘second person’ to tell you. (Yes, I know your inner voice has already told you the same thing…and it is time your inner voice had a friend).  You are enough and you can organize your life to accomplish your greatest dreams.

I know organizing meals can be exhausting, I know waking up feeling less than 100% is draining, and I know your mind screams at you to just ‘chill’…but these feelings are why healthy eating is so so important.

The first step to feeling better is to create habits that support your best self.  Having a clear thought process and ample natural energy is a huge bonus while working on extraordinary goals.

Breaking down Month 1: Healthy Eating.

Week #1.

For the first week of each step, all I want you to do is think about changes you are going to make.  Do some research on a health plan that works for you. Sit in quiet and literally ask your body what healthy eating means for you. (I will talk about this further in my Healthy Eating Article).

This first week, you can be purchasing supplements and vitamins, building grocery lists, discovering fun new recipes for the next few weeks.

Remember, this is meant to be nice and easy. No stress needed!  Your main focus and goal is preparing to eat healthier. The rest you may place to the side.  This is the benefit of the program…No more guilt or shame. Just positive decision making while being gentle with yourself to correct old habits no longer benefiting you.

Week #2.

Putting your research into practice.  Time to make it happen.  At this point you will have your groceries, recipes, and supplements.  Again, this is not about perfection, it is making small changes one step at a time. Begin by cooking or hiring someone to cook for you.  There are a million ways to put eating healthy into practice. This is why the first week requires thinking…what will work best for you.  Everyone has a different process, budget, and health requirements.

For myself, eating healthy looks like this…

(I run my own schedule and no longer have a large intestine so my diet and timing may be different than yours).  Be healthy, be unique, find your process. The whole point is to find a routine for you, not for anyone else.  Lead by example.

Keeping a Food Journal is SO HELPFUL!

Week #3.

Optimizing your practice and settling into the habit.  This is the week everything happens.  You start to miss and crave old habits and things begin to feel like a hassle.  Stay strong!

Be gentle with yourself and remember the whole goal is to help you think clearly and build habits ensuring you are able to accomplish your ‘Personal Treasure’. (Seriously, read the Alchemist). 😊

Healthy Tips:

  • Drink pure and alive water.  (Want to know if the water you drink is pure?)
  • Eat tons of COLORFUL healthy vegetable carbs. (Experiment with one new veggie a shopping trip. See how it boosts your energy the same way caffeine does).
  • Eat high quality plant protein
  • Make the decision to choose less processed sugar.

Week #4

Keep practicing and thriving with your healthy eating program!  In the fourth week it is time to begin transitioning your next habit change into the mix, EXERCISE.  All you have to do is ‘think and process’ about what adding exercise into your life looks like for you.

Eating Healthy + Exercise

  • What is fun and exciting for you?
  • Find locations or groups for your style of exercise. (Hiking, Yoga, Kickboxing, Jiu Jitsu, Thai Chi, kung fu, Gym, etc.)
  • Free and Paid options are always available.

***Choose something that works for you.  After going to the gym for one or two months, I get tired and stop working out for months at a time. I love the feeling of working out but quickly lose interest in lifting weights.  I found I needed hiking, cross training, and yoga to really stay motivated. (I know budget can be a factor early on…this is discussed in the Exercise Article). The goal is to be doing something that raises your energy, strengthens your body, and keeps you flexible. ***

Keep It Simple

As you can see above you will be practicing your optimized Eating Healthy process while slowly negotiating and discovering your new Exercise program.  Each month you are building habits that make significant changes in your Mind, Body, and Soul while practicing simple and easy changes.

You have plenty of time, a sense of calm, and your Personal Treasure and Adventurous Goals in the forefront of your mind.

This process gave me a way to still live life while making the changes I needed to make, while avoiding the “guilt of ‘not doing enough'”.  One step at a time and before you know it you will be on Habit #5.

***Again. Everyone is different.  If you have an extenuating circumstance it is imperative you listen to your body for what is right for you.  Be honest with yourself and allow yourself to truly heal or move past old and unhealthy habits. Check your ego!   (A nutritionist goes a long way if you feel a little lost!)

Final Thoughts

As you can see The 5×5 builds on itself quickly and efficiently.   And again, the best part is NO GUILT OR SHAME. This is simply a process to organize your Mind, Body, and Soul to get things done when you have unlimited time or very little time.  Both environments can be a challenge.

So many of us dream of our goals while the wheels spin and regret piles up.  This does not need to be your story!

Your story is one of thriving excitement and adventure as you build your Mind, Body, and Soul. This is when you will see your Dreams and Goals begin to truly succeed.

I am excited to take you on this journey as we discover how to calm our minds in 2020.  With distractions, unlimited opportunity, and past healing it can be almost impossible to focus and accomplish the goals and dreams that truly mean the most to us.
